The present paper deals with the karyotype analysis of 10 species of Cupressus including C. arizonica, C. bakeri ssp. mathewsii, C. chengiana, C. duclouxiana, C. funebris, C. goveniana, C. lusitanica, C. macrocarpa, C. pygmaea and C. sargentii. Except for C. arizonica, C. chengiana and C. macrocarpa they are all reported for the first time.The karyotype formula of the 10 species is K(2n)=22=22m which belongs to Stebbins'1A type. After making comparison among the karyotypes of 13 representive species in Cupressus, combined with data from geography, fossil, palaeogeography and palaeoclimate, the author thinks that C. sempervirens in Mediterranean region might be the most promitive one, the species in East Asia-China intermediate, those in North America advanced and C.lusitanica in Mexico and Guatemala the most advanced. The genus may have originated in the Mediterranean during the Jurassic or even earlier and then migrated from East Asia to North America via the Beringia in the Miocene or Pliocene. In the present paper，both cladistic analysis and phenetic analysis were conducted to evaluate the phylogenetic relationships of the Taxodiaceae based on an extensive literature review and study of herbarium． In the cladistic analysis，the Sciadopityaceae was chosen as outgroup．The polarity of characters was determined mainly according to outgroup comparison，fossil evidence and generally accepted viewpoints of morphological evolution．By the result of compatibility analysis，character 2(leaf type)，which possessed a much higher coefficient than others whether or not its polarity was altered，was deleted． Finally，a data matrix consisting of all the extant nine genera and 24 characters was analyzed using Maximal Same Step Method，Synthetic Method，Evolutionary Extremal Aggregation Method and Minimal Parallel Evolutionary Method，and four cladograms were generated，of which only the most parsimonious one (Fig．1)was presented for discussion. The cladogram shows that the Taxodiaceae are assorted along five lines of evolution： 1)Metasequoia；2)Sequoiadendron，Sequoia；3)Cryptomeria；4)Glyptostrobus and Taxodium；5)Cunninghamia，Athrotaxis and Taiwania． Ten genera(including Sciadopitys)and 59 characters were used in the phenetic analysis．The phenogram(Fig．2)indicates that Sciadopitys is a very distinct group with remote affinity to the other genera，and the Taxodiaceae are divided into four groups：1)Sequoia，Sequoiadendron；2)Athrotaxis，Cunninghamia and Taiwania；3)Cryptomeria，Glyptostrobus and Taxodium；4)Metasequoia． Based primarily on the result of cladistics，with reference to that of phenetics，the main conclusions were drawn as follows：(1)Generic relationships：Cryptomeria should be considered the most primitive genus in the extant groups of the Taxodiaceae. Glyptostrobus and Taxodium, close to Cryptomeria, are sister taxa and relatively primitive groups. Sequoiadendron and Sequoia are closely related and intermediate advanced. Metasequoia is a more or less isolated taxon, relatively close to Sequoiadendron and Sequoia. Cunninghamia. Athrotaxis and Taiwania might represent a single lineage and form a very advanced group, of which Taiwania may be the most specialized. (2) Systematic treatments: The authors support the viewpoint that Sciadopitys should be treated as an independent family, and suggest that the Taxodiaeae should be divided into five tribes. This paper deals with the morphology of seedlings of the Taxaceae in China．Our morphological and anatomical investigations reaved that the cross morphology of seedlings and the structure of the cotyledons can be used to explain the phylogeny of the Taxaceae， and the seedlings of the Taxaceae can be classified into three types．In Type I，represented by only Torreya， seedlings strong， hypogeal； hypocotyl very short；cotyledon thick and fleshy， with some stomata on the upper epidermis which is protective tissue，but with no stomata on the lower epidermis，which absorbes nutrient from endosperm；mesophyll has not differentiated into palisade and spongy parenchyma，and with abundant starch grains in its cells；two vascular bundles lie side by side in the upper part or at the top of the cotyledon，but fuse into one in the lower part of the cotyledon，and a resin canal present on the side of phloem． In Type II，represented only by Amentotaxus，seedling strong，epigeal； hypocotyl elongated and thickened in the lower part；cotyledon somewhat fleshy，with some stomata on the upper epidermis but no on the lower epidermis；mesophyll not differentiated into palisade and spongy parenchyma；plastid greenish， but accumulated starch mainly；vascular bundle single，wide and flat，but it tends to divide into two near the tip of the cotyledon resin canal absent． In Type III, represened by Taxus，Pseudotaxus，and probably，seedling thin，epigeal; hypocotyl elongated，slender(somewhat thick in the lower part inAustrotaxus only)；cotyledon thin，leaf-1ike，Without stomata on the upper epidermis，but with stomata arranged in line，forming stoma band on the lower epidermis；mesophyll differentiated into palisade and spongy parenchyma and functions like a true leaf; vascular bundle single，narrow；resin canal absent． These three types represent a phylogenetlcal sequence from primitive to advanced．

In this paper the worldwide geographical distribution of the genus Achnatherum is discussed in detail．The paper is divided into following five parts：1．Conspectus of taxonomic system：The genus Achnatherum Beauv．comprises 23 species，which can be grouped into 5 sections．The characteristics of each section are described．An infrageneric system including species in each section is presented．2．Geographical distribution of the genus：The northernmost occurrence of the genus is represented by A．sibiricum and A．confusum at latitude 62°N and the southernmost by A．chingii var．laxum at latitude 26°N．As far as vertical distribution is concerned，the lowermost record of latitude in the genus is at 120 m (represented by A．bromoides)and the highest record at 4600 m(by A．jacquemontii and A．duthiei)．3．Systematic position and geographical distribution of sections：The systematic position of five sections in the genus，i．e．，Sect．Achnatherum，Sect. (C) Three migration routes lead to the present distribution pattern:a) From the Hengduan Mountain westward along the Himalayas across Kashmir Region to the Mediterranean and Central Europe. b) From Hengduan Mountain northward across the Qilian Mountain, west of the Huanghe corridor, Tianshan Mountain, mountains west of the Tarim basin to the Issyk lake. c) From Hengduan Mountains northeastwards across Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Hebei, and northeast part of China to Siberia, eastwards to Kamchatka Peninsula, westwards to upper stream of the Ob River, and across the Asia-Bering Land Bridge to Nevada and Rocky Mountains in west United States. (D) The majority of species of Achnatherum are distributed in subhumid, semi-arid and arid areas,and also on mountains of extremely arid desert region in the Northern Hemisphere. This paper，third in the series of an account of the genus Athyrium in China， presents a revision of the series Epiraches Ching et Y．T．Hsieh ex Y．T．Hsieh．A total of 11 species are recognized from China，and more than 20 names are reduced to synonyms in the present paper．Ser．Epiraches is anatural group in Athyrium,it is distinguished from all the other groups of the genus by its Asplenioid sori and indusia，The series is entirely Asian tropical，subtropical and primarily montane．Its northern limits in central and eastern China are not beyond the Yangtze River．Southwestern part and Taiwan of China and Japan Islands are centers of diversity for the series，each with more than five species．Some speciesare disjunctly distributed in southwest China-Taiwan-Japan；one species(Athyrium roseum) occurs discontinuously between Yunnan and Taiwan；one endemic to Hainan(A. hainanense)is the only representative of Athyrium on the island．All members of this series grow in evergreen broad-leaf forests，generally from 500 to 1800 m above sea level．A key to the species，and illustrations of the middle pinnae from different specimens are provided．
