15 ESI Highly Cited Papers and 1 ESI Hot Paper

On November 2025, Clarivate Analytics officially released the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) rankings. According to the latest data, 15 JSE papers were identified as the Highly Cited Papers and one as the Hot Paper. These articles cover the fields of genomics, biogeography, phylogeny, conservation biology, etc. and show the most concerned research topics and frontiers in systematic and evolutionary biology.

The hot paper is the review “Evolution of East Asian subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests: When and how?” This review not only consolidates contemporary perspectives on the evolution of East Asian subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests (EBLFs) but also proposes a framework to navigate the Anthropocene challenges. By bridging historical patterns with future projections, they aim to catalyze transformative research on EBLFs’ resilience and sustainable management, fostering further research and development regarding the resurgence.

Highly Cited Papers are papers published in the last 10 years that are receiving the most citations (top 1%) when compared to peer papers (same field, same publication year). Hot Papers are papers published in the last two years that are receiving the most citations (top 0.1%) in the most recent two-month period when compared to peer papers (same field, same publication date).
