Call for papers: Special Issue on "Poaceae Biogeography"
  • Theme
The most important family for food production in the world and the fourth largest family of flowering plants with more than 11,500 species, the grasses are the subject of an upcoming Special Issue of JSE. Biogeography has blossomed into a major discipline of evolutionary biology and the authors intend to present the current knowledge on the derivation of the major lineages (clades) that reside in the grass family. Using the fossil record to aid in dating our phylogenetic trees derived from DNA sequence studies, the authors will attempt to reconstruct ancestral states hoping to locate the origin and diversification of major clades, i.e., subfamilies, tribes, supersubtribes, and/or subtribes of selected lineages in the grasses.

    Subject Coverage
We welcome submissions in all aspects related to the biogeography, classification, and evolution of the Poaceae. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
—Phylogenomics and phylogenetics of large or complex groups
—Newly explored biogeographic and evolutionary aspects of major clades

    Organizers
Paul M. Peterson and Robert J. Soreng

    Important Dates
Authors interested in contributing to the special issue should submit their manuscripts by 1 June 2021 at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/josae. Note that all manuscripts will be rigorously peer-reviewed and held to the standards of the journal.
The target date for publication of the special issue is November 2021, although accepted manuscripts will be published online in advance of the issue.
