Special Issue on “Systematics and biodiversity in the Himalayan region”
We are delighted to introduce the second special issue of Journal of Systematics and Evolution on the Himalayas, entitled Systematics and biodiversity in the Himalayan region. This issue features 11 cutting-edge studies that employ genomic approaches to explore this iconic region as a dynamic evolutionary engine. Research spans diverse groups—including fungi, fish, birds, insects, and plants—to uncover origins, diversification, and biogeographic patterns driven by historical tectonics and climate. Key findings support a “Xizang-origin” hypothesis for several taxa and reveal how river capture and Pleistocene changes shaped speciation. Studies also address pressing conservation needs, such as genetic threats to endemic trees. Collectively, this issue deepens our understanding of Himalayan biodiversity and highlights the power of integrative, genomics-driven research.
